The eldest son and namesake of former U.S. President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., received and opened a letter at his Florida home that contained a white powder of unknown nature, local media reported on Tuesday, citing sources close to the family.

"The results of the test that the substance underwent did not provide certainty about what it is exactly, but the officials who responded (to Donald Trump Jr.'s home) do not believe it is lethal," said a spokesperson for the former president's son to ABC News.

Trump's son, who has two other sons and two daughters, opened the letter that arrived at his residence in Jupiter, Florida, near Palm Beach, where his father resides. Upon seeing the white powder inside, he immediately left it and notified the police on Monday afternoon.

A team with specialists in handling hazardous substances arrived at Donald Trump Jr.'s home, took charge of the letter, and brought it to a laboratory to determine its contents.

According to CBS, as the initial analyses were inconclusive, further testing is being conducted.

Simultaneously, an investigation has been launched involving federal police, deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, and collaboration from officials of the United States Postal Service.

The former president's eldest son told the conservative outlet MxM News that this is the second time he has received a letter with a substance inside.

"If this had happened twice to a prominent Democrat, there would have been congressional hearings, but since my last name is Trump, the media will forget about this in a day," said 46-year-old Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president.

Trump is currently campaigning to secure the Republican presidential nomination for the November elections this year, after facing defeat at the polls in 2020, a result he has never acknowledged.

The 77-year-old conservative politician and businessman has dominated all state primary elections held to date and recently defeated former Governor Nikki Haley, the only other contender for the Republican nomination, in her home state of South Carolina.

Simultaneously, he is entangled in a web of legal proceedings for accusations ranging from his alleged involvement in an insurrection to prevent current President Joe Biden, a Democrat, from assuming the presidency in January 2021 to sexual assault and improper payments to a porn actress in exchange for her silence, along with mishandling classified documents and alleged criminal business practices.

Trump claims innocence of all accusations and asserts that he is the victim of a conspiracy to prevent him from returning to the White House.
