Tornadoes in the southeastern US leave at least three dead and several injured

At least three people died and three were injured after several tornadoes were recorded in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Arkansas, and other states, where authorities are still searching for possible victims among the debris this Friday.

The deputy chief of the Logan County Sheriff's Office in Ohio, Joe Kopus, said at a press conference that three people died when a tornado devastated a lot of mobile homes in Lake View, near Dayton, and caused damage in Midway, Orchid Island, and Rusel’s Point.

Emergency management authorities in the neighboring Mercer County indicated that there was also damage caused by a tornado, which left at least three people injured.

The National Weather Service (NWS) received reports overnight Thursday about eight tornadoes in Ohio, Indiana, and Texas, and the governor of Kentucky, Andi Beshear, reported that at least one crossed his state.

Beshear urged state residents to stay alert to weather reports, as more storms are expected in Kentucky.

The Indiana State Police indicated that a tornado touched down in Randolph and Delaware counties, near the border with Ohio, and caused extensive damage in the towns of Selma and Winchester.

The governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb, on social media, pointed out that severe weather phenomena "have impacted residents throughout the state and emergency response has been launched in the affected areas."

In a conference shortly after midnight, the superintendent of the Indiana State Police, Douglas Carter, said that authorities were looking to confirm if the tornadoes had caused any deaths, and added that there were residents trapped in some buildings.
