The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, paid a bail of about 91 million dollars this Friday while his appeal to the verdict in the defamation trial to the writer E. Jean Carroll is resolved.

With this payment, Trump seeks to stop the execution of the sentence while his appeal is resolved, which he also presented to the Court this Friday, indicated the American media The Hill.

"Former President Trump respectfully requests that this Court recognize the substitution bond obtained for the sum of 91 million 630 thousand dollars and approve it as adequate and sufficient to suspend the execution of the sentence, to the extent that the sentence causes damages and losses, pending the final disposition of the former president's appeal," wrote Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, in the court documents that were delivered this day in a New York District Court.

According to CNN, the insurance company Chubb covered the bail for Trump, whose documents he would have signed since Tuesday. According to the American chain, Chubb will only guarantee the appeal of the sentence of 83.3 million dollars, but not any future appeal.

The bail exceeds the amount of the sentence because the District Court requires payment of 110% of the amount. The deadline for the former president to cover the payment of the sentence is next Monday.

The appeal filed by the president seeks to delay the payment of the sentence or reduce the amount while his request for a new trial is resolved.

In January, a jury in New York determined that Trump must pay 83.3 million dollars to E. Jean Carroll for having defamed her in 2019 by saying that her claims that the former president had sexually assaulted her decades before were lies.
